Bootstrap Events

As part of their welcome to the school, all teachers joining EPFL are invited to an event called “Bootstrap”. The aim of this event is to provide teachers with the key information they need to start working at EPFL and to allow them to get acquainted and meet senior staff in an informal setting. Participation is by invitation only. It is highly recommended to all new people

For professors (in the sense of the academic title), the Bootstrap is a one-day seminar organized off-campus every spring. The topics covered are:

  • Mission and strategy of the school and role of teaching staff;
  • Expectations and support offered regarding teaching excellence;
  • Special features of the EPFL teaching and evaluation system;
  • Mission and support in the field of research.

For other teachers, Bootstrap is an evening seminar that covers the following topics:

  • Mission and strategy of the school and role of teaching staff;
  • Expectations and support offered regarding teaching excellence;
  • Special features of the EPFL teaching and evaluation system.

Bootstrap events are organized by the Teaching Support Center in collaboration with the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Vice Provosts for Education and Research, Office of Research, Professorial Affairs, and the Center for Education in the Digital Age.

Services for new teachers

All new teachers are invited to benefit from personalized support from an educational advisor who can help them prepare for teaching at EPFL.

Concrete support, step by step, for new assistant professors (PATT) helps in preparing the advertising file. A pedagogical advisor helps adapt lessons to the school context.EPFLand identifying relevant resources for (D) Course design, technology support or logistical issues.
